“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
- Isaiah 43:19
Let's be real....sometimes our answer to this is "No." "No God, I see nothing new happening for me. I have been doing everything I can while waiting, and watching. Praying and hoping. I see nothing."
But when we take a closer look at the verse, it says "See, I am doing a new thing." Not, "See, I will be doing a new thing." Or, "See I already did a new thing and now I'm done."
God is always working---even when its behind the scenes. Our human eyes want instant results, but God’s timing is perfect. What looks like waiting may actually be preparation for something greater than we imagined.
I like to think of it like a seedling planted in the ground. For a while, nothing seems to be happening. The soil looks the same. There’s no visible growth, no sign that anything is changing—but beneath the surface, something is taking place. Roots are forming, strength is building, and life is beginning in a way we can’t yet see. And then, in the right time, it breaks through. What once looked like nothing was actually the beginning of something new and beautiful all along. Patience and trust are the key.
Take a moment to look back at your life—how has God been working in ways you didn’t recognize at first? But then later on, after all the waiting, you realized it was for your good.
The same is happening now.
I think sometimes too, God is actually showing us he is doing something new in the moment, and we miss it. We miss it oftentimes because its not how we expected it to appear, or it happened in the different capacity.
However, even the tiniest changes—a door that opens, a connection made, a lesson learned—are proof that God is doing something new.
He puts those moments in our day to day to give us encouragement to keep going, and to keep trusting in his goodness.
We can’t become so caught up in what we want, or we’ll miss these small, daily blessings that truly make a big difference.
Seasons of waiting can feel frustrating, but they are often the very places where God is shaping us, growing our faith, and preparing us for what’s ahead. The promise isn’t that we’ll always see it, but that it is happening—and that gives us reason to keep walking in faith.
With Fresh Perspective,
