Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfector of faith.

- Hebrews 12:1-2

This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. As someone who loves running, it’s always resonated with me in a deeper way. But even if running isn’t your thing, this verse holds so much encouragement and truth for everyone, no matter what season you’re in.

There a couple main themes that stand out to me in this verse so let's break them down!

  1. Run, Not Walk

The first part of the verse tells us to run the race. But lets be honest, sometimes there are seasons where running feels impossible. Sometimes all we can do is jog… walk… or even crawl. Life can get so taxing that moving forward at all feels like a challenge. But when we remind ourselves of the light at the end of the tunnel—the promise of Christ—it becomes easier to keep going. Not because the pain disappears, but because we’re no longer stuck in it. Instead, we begin to move forward with a sense of peace in the present.

  2. Life is a Marathon, Not a Sprint

The verse specifically highlights the virtue of perseverance---reminding us that life is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes patience, persistence, and time before we reach the finish line. And that’s not something to rush through. We don’t need to speed through our days trying to “arrive” somewhere faster. We’re allowed to move at our own pace. What matters most is that we keep going.

  3. Our Own Race

Next the verse speaks of the race marked out for us. No two paths look the same—and that’s a beautiful thing. God has given each of us a unique purpose. Each path comes with its own challenges, its own growth, and its own meaning. You were created intentionally, with specific strengths and gifts for a reason. So often we lose momentum because we’re trying to run someone else’s race. But we were never meant to.

  4. Eye on the Prize

    “Fixing our eyes on Jesus…”

How different would life feel if that was truly our focus?

That doesn't guarantee its going to be easy. But it does mean that it will be possible and beautiful. He is running this race with us----every step of the way. It is his strength, comfort, and guidance

that will turn this rocky road into a great adventure.

  5. Strength for the Journey

In every marathon, runners rely on a few key things to keep going: water, nourishment, and encouragement. Without them, finishing the race would be nearly impossible. In the same way, Jesus is our source of strength and energy. He is the one who hydrates us when we feel drained, sustains us when we feel empty, and who cheers us on when we feel like giving up. That’s what it means when it says He is the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. He doesn’t just start the journey with us—He carries us through it.

So remember... the race isn’t about perfection—it’s about perseverance.

Some days will feel strong, others will feel exhausting. But neither defines the outcome. What matters is that you don’t give up.

Keep showing up. Keep moving forward. Keep your eyes on Jesus.

With Clarity and Confidence,

Ashley
