The cold, short days that make up the winter season can be difficult on all of us. And by "us" I mean people and things. We take care of ourselves by resting and eating lots of soup during the cold months :) but what can we do for our house?
🏠 Tips to Keep Your Home Healthy This Winter
Winter is in full swing, and January is the perfect time to check in on your home. Cold temperatures, snow, and limited ventilation can take a toll on a property if small issues are ignored. A little prevention now can save you stress and expensive repairs later.
1. Protect Your Pipes: Frozen pipes are one of the most common winter problems. Keep your home heated (even if vacant), open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate, and insulate exposed pipes when possible.

2. Check Your Heating System: Make sure your furnace or heating system is running efficiently. Replace filters regularly and listen for unusual noises. A struggling system often gives warning signs before it fails.
3. Watch for Moisture & Mold: Winter homes are sealed tighter, which can trap moisture inside. Use exhaust fans in kitchens and bathrooms, and keep an eye out for condensation on windows or musty smells—early signs of moisture issues.
4. Clear Snow & Ice Safely: Remove snow from walkways and driveways to prevent slips and liability issues. Also check your roof and gutters for heavy snow buildup that could cause damage.
5. Inspect the Exterior: Winter weather can worsen small cracks or roof issues. If weather allows, do a quick exterior walk-around to look for loose siding, damaged shingles, or areas where cold air may be getting in.
