"Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'" Psalm 91:1-2

I chose this verse to reflect on this month because it reminds us that our true safety and peace come from dwelling in God’s presence. To dwell isn’t to visit occasionally. It’s to remain, return, and rest.

Just as we take steps to protect our physical homes during the cold winter months, we need also to check in with our spiritual homes--our hearts. Is our relationship with God cold? Do we trust in his love, goodness and peace even when times get difficult?

Maybe we can take steps to warm ourselves spiritually this winter too.

I know...this world is crazy. Crazy in so many ways. Some good...some not so good...

Crazy busy. Crazy awesome.

Crazy Uncertain. Crazy Wonderful.

Crazy Broken. Crazy Beautiful.

And sometimes we are like "I NEED to get away." But when its only January and you still have 6 more months until your summer vacation...it can get discouraging and difficult in the mundane routine.

Well what if I told you, you CAN get away right now though? Every single day you can go somewhere that rejuvenates you. Warms You. Comforts you. Fuels You.

You can go TO someone who Believes in You. Encourages You. Helps You. Loves You.

And that place...that person...is God.

Maybe this sound cliché to you. Maybe you feel far from this freedom. Maybe you have never been to Him before. But I'm here to tell you you don't have to hide somewhere else. He offers you a shelter that is full of peace, hope, and love. He offers it freely---no airplane tickets, no housing fees. AND he offers it with an open door...meaning He invites you here because He wants you here.

So if your wondering where to begin here are some tips:

  1. Create Daily Stillness: Immerse yourself in silence. No Distractions

  2. Call on Him and Be Honest: Let go of all your overwhelming thoughts and surrender them to him, trusting that he will take care of them.

  3. Thank Him: For everything he has already done, and using this as hope for the future.

  4. Open Up His Word: If your feel comfortable open up the Bible. Even flipping to a random page. He wants to encourage you and speak to you in your distress and anxiety.

  5. Rest in His presence: Just Sit and Be. Soak up his Peace, so that when you do go back to your obligations, you feel lighter and more lifted!

Dwelling in the shelter of the Most High isn’t about escaping the chaos of the world.

It’s about having a place to rest within it.

And that shelter is always open.

Warm regards,

Ashley
